CASA Inspires $30, 000 in Community Support

LANCASTER, PA (05/08/2018) – Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Lancaster County hosted their Sixth Annual Community Awareness Breakfast on Friday, April 27, 2018 at Cork Factory Hotel Ballroom. More than 130 guests were welcomed by Board President William Stratton, followed by CASA Executive Director Jessica Laspino who shared the mission and vision of the organization with the community. The most poignant presentation of the morning was given by a former foster child who shared not only his experience in care, but more importantly, the positive impact of having a CASA volunteer by his side.

The event concluded with CASA Director of Community Outreach, Melissa Leibig, making a request for guests to join CASA in helping children in foster care by making a commitment to the organization. Attendees were asked to make a donation, take the first step to becoming an advocate, and/or to commit to spreading awareness about CASA and the youth served in their communities. The event raised over $30,000 in donations, as well as several new volunteers to the organization.

If you are interested in learning more about the CASA movement and becoming an advocate, CASA is hosting information sessions in May and June:
•Tuesday, May 15, 6:00 pm at CASA, 53 North Duke Street, Suite 218, Lancaster, PA 17602
•Tuesday, June 19th, 12:00 pm at Ephrata Rec Center, 130 South Academy Dr., Ephrata, PA 17522

A Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer is a trained citizen (21 years or older) who is appointed by a judge to represent the best interest of a child in court. The children that CASA volunteers advocate for have been abused and neglected and placed into the foster care system. CASA volunteers work to help ensure a safe and permanent home for the child as quickly as possible.
