CASA Needed For Ed
Lancaster, PA (October 3, 2013) – Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Lancaster County wants to introduce you to "Ed”. Ed needs you – a qualified, compassionate adult who will fight for and protect a child's right to be safe, to be treated with dignity and respect, and to learn and grow in the security of a loving family.
Ed is a 13 year old child in foster care. He was removed from his home because of serious and prolonged neglect. Ed’s diabetes went untreated for years. Ed’s mother has untreated mental health issues and has significant difficulty providing a healthy diet and safe, clean living conditions.
The resulting complications of Ed’s medical needs were unaddressed for a lengthy period of time and today he is battling his way back to health.
Ed needs a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) to champion his best interest. CASAs are appointed by a judge to specific cases.
The children that CASA volunteers advocate for have experienced abuse and neglect so severe that social service agencies and the courts have had to intervene. Volunteers work to help ensure a safe and permanent home for the child as quickly as possible. CASAs are an extension of the "eyes and ears” of the judge.
Ed’s CASA will meet with him regularly and get to know Ed – his wants, needs, and his aspirations. His CASA will speak with the biological family and the foster family. Ed’s CASA will also speak with his teachers, doctors, therapists and other professionals. These conversations enable the CASA to write court reports, provide court recommendations, and champion without compromise for what is in Ed’s best interest.
The CASA’s recommendations will address Ed’s needs – physical and mental health, educational needs and living arrangements.
CASAs believe that every child deserves a safe, nurturing, and permanent home.
