CASA Receives $40,000 United Way Grant
Lancaster, PA (June 7, 2013) - United Way of Lancaster County awarded Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) a $40,000.00 grant as part of its program-funding plan for the 2013-2014 year.
CASA of Lancaster County provides court appointed volunteer advocacy for abused and neglected children in the belief that every child deserves a safe, nurturing and permanent home. CASA programs are predicated on the belief that growing up in a safe home is a fundamental human right. CASA volunteers fight for that right, they lift up children's voices, they lift up children's lives.
Jessica Laspino, Executive Director, was delighted to learn of the United Way’s decision to help fund CASA’s child advocacy program. "These monies will directly impact our ability to serve more children. Recruiting and training more volunteers willing to advocate for children who are abused and neglected will ensure more children are provided a CASA Volunteer Advocate who will work tirelessly on behalf of the child’s best interest until a safe and permanent home is facilitated. Reduced time in out of home placement, creating stability and lifelong connections for children have a positive impact on the community as a whole.” stated Ms. Laspino.
United Way of Lancaster County President Patrick Jinks commented on the organization’s move in the direction of investing campaign dollars raised in programs that address the needs of the community in an impactful way. "We are now intentionally focusing dollars on programs that impact people’s lives in measurable terms and make positive change in our community. People who give to United Way can be confident that their investments are improving lives and making a real difference in our community.” stated Mr. Jinks.
CASA is central to fulfilling society’s most fundamental obligation by making sure a qualified, compassionate adult will fight for and protect a child’s right to be safe, to be treated with dignity and respect, and to learn and grow in the security of a loving family.
