Charity 8 Ball Tournament Raises Over $29,000 for CASA

8 Ball Charity Tournament and Riverside Camping Association Present Checks Charity 8 Ball Tournament Raises Over $29000 for CASA

LANCASTER, PA (April 14, 2015) – The Lancaster County 8 Ball League raised $14,780 for CASA through their Annual Harry Hutchinson – Jack Byerly Charity 8 Ball Tournament held February 26 to March 1, 2015 at the Riverside Camping Association. The $14,780 raised by the 8 Ball Tournament was matched by the Riverside Camping Association. Checks were presented on Monday, April 6, 2015 at Riverside Camping Association, 730 E. Strawberry Street, Lancaster PA.

The charity 8 ball tournament was established in memory of Harry Hutchinson and Jack Byerly, two of the founding members of the Lancaster County 8 Ball League. In addition to raising funds, the tournament serves to combat the commonly held stigma that all pool-players are looking to take advantage of other players. According to League Secretary, Lisa Binkley, "Pool players are a cross section of people, white collar, blue collar, mechanics, nurses, all kinds of people play pool. We’re not all hustlers.” League members are invested in keeping their tournament local, and continue to make a positive name for pool players everywhere. This year marks the fifth year CASA has been honored as the 8 Ball League’s Charity. League President, Clint "Tiny” Murray exclaimed, "We just keep getting bigger and bigger!”

Riverside Camping Association is one of the largest private clubs in Lancaster, maintaining membership at 2,500. The Association is committed to supporting local charities. Just in the last two months, the Association has donated over $65,000 locally. Their generous matching donation to CASA of $14,780 is "for the good of the community,” according to the President of the Riverside Camping Association, John Lehman. Association Treasurer, Brian Leese, agreed and added, "Members are always very supportive of anything to do with children.”

CASA Executive Director, Jessica Laspino, was there along with staff to accept the checks. She said, "We were absolutely blown away by the generosity shown by the Lancaster County 8 Ball League and the Riverside Camping Association. The fact that another organization is so committed to our cause, to helping vulnerable children, is humbling. The work and time put in by the 8 Ball League is invaluable and we are so grateful.”
