Elementary School Children Raise $1,025 for CASA
LANCASTER, PA (May 20, 2014) – New Holland Elementary School hosted its first ever Art Gala on Friday evening, April 25. Student art work was displayed throughout the hallways. Gala attendees were invited to participate in a silent auction for the student's artwork.
The auction proceeds and donations from the attendees totaled $1,025.00!
After the silent auction, a short program was held in the gymnasium where the students paid tribute to their parents and presented CASA with a framed picture created by the students.
Thirty four New Holland Elementary School students volunteered to be part of an extracurricular art class to produce the artwork that was auctioned to benefit Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Lancaster County.
Led by Trista McCracken, the art class met weekly after school for eight weeks. Ms. McCracken conceived the idea for the Art Gala by combining her love of art and her desire to help children in distress.
The Art Gala was a red carpet event. Dressed in their finest, each student artist escorted their parents, family, and friends into the event. Each family group was photographed on the red carpet against a black backdrop decorated with the student’s handprints.
"It’s not every day I receive a call from a community member wanting to organize an event to benefit CASA,” stated Wanda Stoltzfus, CASA’s Director of Development and Communications. "What a generous group of students, parents, and family members.”
CASA provides a qualified and compassionate court-appointed volunteer advocate to every child who is abused and neglected, to ensure the fundamental human right of having a safe, nurturing, and permanent home is met. CASA advocates on behalf of Lancaster County’s most vulnerable children – those who have experienced abuse and neglect so severe they have been removed from their homes.
CASA offers many opportunities to be involved in supporting children. Learn more about CASA at www.casalancaster.org or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
