Stand Up With Local Volunteer Advocates!

LANCASTER, PA (December, 18 2017) – "I've yet to see a child who's asked to be in these circumstances," stated Karen Blevins, Volunteer Advocate at Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Lancaster County. For the past two years Karen, a Lancaster resident, has taken on an investigative volunteer role that many might assume requires a degree in social work. Karen does not have said degree, but rather, the passion to stand up for abused and neglected children. Since starting with CASA in the fall of 2015, she has chosen to accept four different cases, advocating for a total of six children.

CASAs like Blevins are trained volunteers who are empowered by the courts to represent the best interests of abused, neglected, and/or abandoned children in court. Volunteer Advocates independently examine the child’s situation and report their findings to the courts. Discoveries and recommendations can be made related to educational needs, social needs, mental health needs, physical health needs, or cultural needs. CASA Volunteer Advocates are people - just like you - who believe that every child has the right to be treated with dignity, to be safe, and to thrive in the embrace of a loving family.
