You’re Invited to Make a Difference
LANCASTER, PA (March 26, 2015) – CASA invites you to the 3rd Annual "I Am For the Child” Community Awareness Breakfast on Friday, April 24, 2015 from 8:00 to 9:00 am at Casa di Fiori at the Inn at Leola Village. The event is free and open to the public. Due to limited seating, advance registration is required. Join us to learn how CASA makes a difference in the lives of Lancaster County’s most vulnerable children and how you can help.
CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocate. The organization trains volunteers to advocate on behalf of the best interest of children in foster care. Children that have experienced abuse and neglect so severe they must be removed from their homes.
Volunteer advocates work to help ensure a safe and permanent home for the child as quickly as possible. They are an extension of the "eyes and ears” of the dependency judge. CASA volunteers provide youths with a consistent, compassionate role model. Children with a CASA volunteer are more likely to: find a safe and permanent home; spend less time in foster care; do better in school; and receive more help while in the foster care system.
In 2014, CASA served 173 children of the over 600 children in foster care in Lancaster County. This year, CASA has already served 135 children. But CASA has a bold vision. By 2020, we will have a CASA for every child in foster care in Lancaster County. This breakfast is a call to action. We need your help to reach our vision. We need your help to ensure that every child who is abused and neglected has a safe, permanent home and the support to become a healthy, empowered adult, thereby breaking the cycle of abuse and neglect.
CASA is central to fulfilling society's most fundamental obligation by making sure a qualified, compassionate adult will fight for and protect a child's right to be safe, to be treated with dignity and respect, and to learn and grow in the security of a loving family.
