CASA of Lancaster County Swears In 16 New Volunteer Advocates

Sixteen new volunteers with Lancaster County’s Court Appointed Special Advocates, or CASA, program were sworn in at 6 pm Wednesday, March 28, 2018. The ceremony was hosted by Paul Davis Restoration, Lancaster.

CASA Training and Outreach Coordinator Laura Golomb said the current class of trainees is the first to receive the newly revised National CASA Association Volunteer Training Curriculum, released in November of 2017. According to Golomb, “This latest edition contains current research from child advocacy sources that will equip our volunteers with relevant information and provides our advocates enhanced training designed to improve their efficacy.”

CASA of Lancaster County trains community volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children within the court system. CASA is central to fulfilling society’s most fundamental obligation by making sure a qualified, compassionate adult will fight for and protect a child’s right to be safe, to be treated with dignity and respect, and to learn and grow in the security of a loving family.

Jessica Laspino, Executive Director, has seen the difference CASA makes in a child’s life. “When a CASA takes on a child’s case, that child may be meeting the first person in their lives who will listen to, speak-up for, and reinstate the safety and stability that every child deserves,” stated Laspino.

The 16 new volunteers are:
Bob Rudy, Willow Street
Jessica Tyson, Mount Joy
Olga Sass, Ephrata
Maggie Grab, Marietta
Sarah Roth, Quarryville
